We understand the importance of safeguarding your data. Our comprehensive data recovery and protection services are designed to ensure that your valuable information is always secure and easily retrievable.

Whether you're facing accidental data loss, hardware issues or a cyber attack, our expert team is here to help you recover your data quickly and efficiently. We also implement robust data protection measures to prevent unauthorised access and avoid breaches, giving you cyber security peace of mind and allowing you to focus on your business operations.

Data Recovery

Data recovery involves retrieving lost, corrupted or accidentally deleted data. This process is essential for ensuring business continuity and minimising downtime in the event of data loss. Effective data recovery strategies include regular backups, reliable recovery software, and a disaster recovery plan. By implementing these measures, you can quickly restore lost data and resume normal operations with minimal disruption.

Data Protection

Data protection focuses on safeguarding your data from unauthorised access, breaches and other security threats. This involves implementing various security measures such as encryption, access controls and regular security audits. Additionally, data protection includes ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards to protect sensitive information. By prioritising data protection, you can maintain the integrity and confidentiality of your data, build trust with your clients and avoid costly data breaches.

Recovery means different things to different organisations. But is defined by answering two key questions:

How much data is acceptable to lose?
How much downtime is acceptable?

Most people would say they don't want any data loss or downtime. But that is impossible, or at least very expensive to achieve.

Planning your recovery is about being realistic about which data is most important, how quickly you need to restore it, and in what order, and figuring out how you can keep working as that process happens. Then putting in place backup systems that allow you to do that.

Backups are important. But being able to recover data and work with it, is the real target.

Recovering a single file is relatively quick and easy if set up correctly.

Recovering all your data after a ransomware attack when negotiating with criminals. That is complex, stressful, time-consuming and disorienting.

We do simple file recovery tests every month. For those who need it, we do annual or bi-annual full disaster recovery practices. We always learn something new. That's why we practice. You don't want a real fire to be the first time you are trying to put one out.

Cyber security is often referred to as a journey rather than a destination.

Criminals are constantly evolving how they get around defences. And so we have to improve countermeasures.

Governments, regulators, insurers and business prospects are aware of the dangers, so they can ask organisations to state the protections they have in place.

Our proven process maps out your risks, identifies your most impactful, cost-effective mitigations and plans a budgeted roadmap for your security journey. We then set about implementing the plan and reviewing it quarterly.

Security professionals talk about criminals having a large "attack surface" to exploit. This just means they have many ways defraud us.

Criminals target users (logins, phishing), devices (laptops, phones), connections (WiFi), and identities (spoofing, vishing, smashing). That's a lot of methods to exploit.

That's why we offer a range of security services, from antivirus to security awareness training, to a Security Operations Centre with MDR and SIEM.

These are offered in three packages to make implementation easier and more cost-effective.

Protecting your data requires layers of security to prevent intruders.

No security can guarantee your safety, so it's best to prepare for the worst.

That means having a backup to restore from, a continuity plan to keep you working whilst you recover and a recovery plan to get you back to full working strength as quickly as possible.

We have real world experience delivering all of these steps. They require planning and practice so that when you are under the most pressure you can work the plan efficiently.

At the turn of the century, we tried several backup and recovery systems that didn't deliver on their promises. When we explained our findings to Datto they were the only company to value our feedback and use it to improve their systems. We were invited onto their advisory committee.

In 2005 we were unexpectedly unable to get into our office due to a terrorist incident. In the two weeks we were locked out we learned even more about the practicalities of business continuity and recovery plans.

It's one of the reasons why we offer our clients "fire drill" recovery practices and table top exercises to test response plans.

Here are some of the situations we help small and medium-sized businesses plan for:

Backup Microsoft 365 and recover to the Cloud.
Back up on-premise servers with recovery on-premise and to the Cloud.
Backup key systems to the Cloud.
Backup Line of Business servers to on-premise or the Cloud.

Recently we have encountered a new type of recovery need. Where websites or social media accounts have been cloned. To get the scam site taken down, you first need to be aware of it and then prove ownership of the brand. We are testing solutions.

We are all human and we all make mistakes.

Education is an important part of data protection and recovery.

Better security often means less convenience. But you need to avoid staff using their own IT because it's easier, but it's not as protected or backed up.

Recovering your business is a pressured situation. The better you understand your role in it, and have practised it, the better and quicker you will recover.

We help senior managers plan, implement, buy wisely and educate their teams about constitutes good security and best practice recovery.

We also help with form-filling for due diligence when insurers and prospects ask for details.

We believe in building long-term partnerships with clients and suppliers.

It's why we still have clients from our first year of trading, why Datto (a leading backup and recovery company) inducted us into their hall of fame, why ConnectWise's VP cited us at a global industry event for our best practice approach.

We have considerable expertise in backup and recovery for small and medium businesses. Our sister company, Lyra Recovery, helps larger enterprises with their recovery needs.

We run educational events with insurers, the police and recovery experts to keep our clients well-informed and better protected.

The Final Step provides a professional, user-friendly, solutions-focused service. I have recommended the company to many contacts.

Can you recover data encrypted by ransomware without us paying the criminal?

Yes, provided the right protections are already in place. If your environment has been properly backed up and secured, ransomware does not have to mean paying a ransom. We can roll back your environment to a point before the attack occurred, restoring your data without engaging the attackers.

This is never a guarantee. The outcome depends on the nature of the attack, the backup provisions you have in place and how quickly we are able to respond. But the more prepared you are, with good backup, layered security and a tested business continuity and disaster recovery plan, the better your position. The most important thing is not to wait until you face a ransomware incident to think about this.

Should I try using free data recovery software before sending my drive to you?

We would strongly advise against it. Free recovery tools can interfere with the data on a failing or compromised drive in ways that make professional recovery harder, or in some cases, impossible. If you have only partially recovered data using a DIY tool, we may not be able to retrieve what is missing.

Contact us first. We have the right tools and processes, and we will work in line with your disaster recovery plan from the outset. The sooner you get in touch, the better your chances of a full recovery.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency recovery for critical business failures?

Yes. If you are facing a critical failure, contact us immediately, even outside of normal working hours. Someone is always on standby and can bring in additional resource if needed.

If you do not currently have an out-of-hours support agreement with us, you can still reach us in an emergency. There will be an additional charge in that case, but we will not leave you without support when it matters most.

What is the average cost of recovering a failed SSD or Hard Drive?

If you are on an IT support contract with us, we treat data recovery as we would any other ticket, so it's included as part of your service. We will work as quickly and effectively as possible to recover what has been lost.

We want to be upfront: recovery is not always possible and there are no absolute guarantees. If we exhaust our own recovery options, we will consult with specialist partners to assess whether anything further can be done and, if appropriate, pass the drive on to them for a final attempt.
