London Underground to have 4G

Written by Simon Heath | Jun 25, 2021

The London Underground network is to have 4G connectivity by the end of 2024.

Full mobile connectivity and internet access in stations and tunnels is to be delivered by BAI Communications.

Initially, it will be 4G but upgradeable to 5G in the future.

Phone reception has been available on the eastern half of the Jubilee line since March 2020.

This week (22 June 2021) work started on some of the busiest stations, including Oxford Circus, Tottenham Court Road, Bank, Euston and Camden Town.

The investment is part of mayor Sadiq Khan’s Connected London plan to improved London’s connectivity and digital infrastructure.
