How to create and save a strong password in Keeper password manager

Written by The Final Step | Jan 18, 2024

Many account breaches are the result of poor password hygiene. This can take many forms, but the most common are having too short or too simple a password, creating passwords that contain personal information, using the same password for multiple logins, or a combination of these issues.

When it comes to passwords, many people opt for convenience over security, but using a password manager means we can successfully balance the two. I’m going to show you how to create and store a secure password in Keeper password manager.

Hello, and welcome to another Byte-size Bulletin video, by The Final Step.

Today, I’m going to show you how to create and store a secure password in Keeper password manager.

First, open Keeper and log in securely. You can also create and store new passwords in the browser extension app or the mobile app, but we’ll be using the full programme in this tip.

Once logged in, the default view is your Keeper vault. We’ll navigate to the yellow Plus symbol in the top left corner and click on it. From here, we’ll click on Record to create a new one, but you can also create a Personal Folder here, or a Shared Folder that defined teams or individuals in your organisation can access.

You’ll see a new pop up. In the record type, we’ll be creating a new login, but do have a look through the list to see what else you can save securely in Keeper.

Give your new login a title that corresponds to the login you’re creating or saving. As you type in your title, you’ll receive suggestions which you can click. If you click on a suggestion, this will helpfully fill out the website address section of the new record automatically.

I’ll use Google here as an example.

Click next. You can then add extra info to the login title if needs be.

Type your login username or email address in the next box, or choose from the prompts after starting to type.

Next to the password box, you will see a dice. We will utilise this feature to create a strong, unique password. Click on the eye so you can see the password whilst creating it.

Click on the dice once, and you will see more options appear. You can amend the length of the password, and whether it includes letters, numbers and symbols. Select the options you want, and click the dice until you’re happy with the outcome.

Once you are happy with the new password, click Save. You can then drag this into any existing folders, such as a personal folder for your private accounts or a shared folder for one of your organisation’s teams.
