Outlook Instant Search activation

Outlook 2010 (and Outlook 2007) speed up searching for Outlook items using a feature called Instant Search, which indexes items in the background, as you work. Because they are already indexed items are found much quicker when you actually need to run a search.

If you don’t see a message similar to the one below, then Instant Search is already activated.

For Instant Search to work Windows Search 4.0 must be installed on your computer. Some versions of Vista, and earlier Windows editions, don’t have this. To install it go to Outlook 2010’s main window:

  • Click the File tab
  • Click Options
  • Click Search
  • Under Search Engine Upgrade, click Upgrade Search
