Stolen phone, stolen data?

Laptops and phones are stolen every day. They are packed with personal and work information. Some trivial, some confidential and some damaging in the wrong hands.

How do we manage the risks?

1. Passwords and encryption

Make it much harder to access and read the device.

2. Delete and find stolen devices

If lost or stolen you can remotely delete all info on a device or track it if someone else connects it to the Internet.

3. Use similar equipment

Similar devices are easier to set up and manage. Security is easier to enforce as there are fewer variables. A policy for iPhones and a separate one for BlackBerries is much harder to enforce than a single policy for all devices.

4. Centrally manage your mobiles

Some devices makes central control easy, others need individual attention. If you have to handle each iPhone or BlackBerry every time you need to make a change, it is more likely a security hole will be left unplugged.

It’s easy to forget phones hold so much data. With simple, early steps, we can protect this data and ensure confidentiality.
