The Final Step

Cisco have predicted that at some point in 2012 the number of active mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) will outnumber people on the planet.

But rather than stop there, they believe the number will continue to rise. They estimate that in 2016 there will be more than ten billion connected mobile devices for an estimated 7.3 billion population.

Mobile networks are facing a considerable challenge to accommodate this increase. Cisco believe by the end of 2012 100 million users will be members of the gigabyte club, in other words each will be generating more than 1GB of mobile data per month. By 2016 it is expected that sixty per cent of mobile users, three billion, will generate 1GB per month.
